My article is about some stars that are cooling faster than expected. Scientists have found some white dwarf stars that are cooling faster than they should be. This suggests at the presence of hypothetical particles called axions. Such particles have been thought to make up dark matter. 5 white dwarfs grew dim and then bright in a pattern. The rate at which the stars are changing relates to how fast they are cooling. And each of the stars are cooling way faster than they are “supposed” to. In the same way, some red giants have been cooling extra fast. The scientists who found this out think that the repeated pattern means something is going on. The team thought of several explanations for the fast cooling. They think that the axion explanation seems most possible. Axions produced from a star would go outward, carrying some energy with it, then cooling the star even faster. It might be a case of measurement error, but the scientists don’t think so.
